I Want To Be Poor

Now there are not many people on this planet who would say that I don’t suppose. They are not likely to be consciously accept that they want to be poor but maybe unconsciously they believe something like that. Maybe they believe that they deserve to be poor, or that they don’t deserve to be rich. Why ?

Poverty Consciousness

Some people are born rich and some are born poor but that does not need to determine their future (although in many cases, it does).

A survey in America looked at people’s financial status over a 40 year period from when they started working until when they retired. This is what they discovered. In a group of 100 people,

  • Only 1 will be wealthy
  • 4 will be financially secure
  • 5 will continue working, not because they want to but because they have to
  • 36 will be dead
  • 54 will be broke - dependent on Social Security, relatives, friends and even charity for a minimum standard of living.

So, if this is right, then only 5% of people are financially healthy by the time they reach retirement. I find that quite hard to believe and it is quite shocking if true.

What About You ?

Do you want to be in that top 5% ? What is your attitude towards money ? Do you think money is bad or that only callous, heartless people get rich ? What do you believe deep down ?

Money, in and of itself, is not bad. It’s what you do with money that is good or bad.

So, if you had money, what would you do with it ? Maybe that’s the stumbling block for some people - it’s the responsibility of deciding what to do with money. If you only have money enough to eat and have a roof over your head that there are no big decisions to be made about what to do with your money. But if you have money to provide food, clothing and shelter and money left over, what should you do with it ?

So many people do the lottery, hoping to win millions, but I would be surprised if any of them had a clear idea of what they would do with the millions if they won it.

An ExerciseA list of what you would do with a million pounds

Get a pen and paper and write down what you would do if you had a million pounds. Be realistic. Then, once you’ve done it, decide if each one of the items is good or bad. Good things would be ones that develop you, help others, provide for family and friends. Bad things would be ones that damage you, or damage others or damage the environment. Do you want to change anything on your list ?

Has this helped you change you mind about money ? Could you break out of that poverty consciousness and see the possibility of something more ? Could it be that you deserve to be rich ? Read this article about what being rich means.

A Virtuous Spiral

I hope you caught the series of articles on The Science of Getting Rich that appeared on this blog recently. The first one was called You Deserve to be Rich. There was a lot to take in there so I’m going to post some more articles on different aspects of that programme as ideas occur to me.

What Goes Around, Comes Around

A little while ago, a friend of mine, Gavin, sent me a CD set by a guy called Richard Wilkins. Richard has written a number of excellent books about what he has learned from the challenges in his life and how we can apply those ideas to our lives. I’ve listened to the CDs (there are 6 of them in the set !) several times and, whilst listening to one again this morning in the car, it struck me how the messages in these CDs fit perfectly with the Science of Getting Rich.

It Starts With YOU

Richard talks about ‘What Goes Around, Comes Around’. Notice here that it is NOT ‘What comes around, goes around’ !! The order is important. I take this to mean that it starts with you (and me, of course !). What we give (metaphorically) will come back to us. The more we give, the more we are likely to get back.

Gratitude

So, the more grateful we are for what we have, the more we will have to be grateful for. The practice of gratitude is a central part of the Science of Getting Rich. The author is clear that it is beneficial to us to be grateful for what we have AND what is already coming to us. That takes a fair amount of faith. Can you do that ?

Giving Value For MoneyVirtuous Spiral

Another way in which I interpret the phrase is in giving value for money. Whenever we spend money, we all want to get good value for money - it’s only natural. So if that is what we want to receive, that is what we need to give to others. What goes around, comes around. Wallace Wattles referred to this is his book, The Science of Getting Rich, when he spoke about giving people more in value than you take from them in money. So if you want more value, give more value.

Can you imagine what the world would be like if everyone did that ? If everyone got a good deal ? Not only would we get good value, we would also feel good too ! A virtuous spiral moving upwards. It’s all part of the Law Of Attraction.

Let’s do it !! It starts with you (and me !)

The Final Chapter

Well, this is the last post in this series of articles on The Science of Getting Rich. We’ve reached the final chapter of the book. The final chapter is a summary of the whole book. I did a summary of chapters 1-6 a little while ago and I am going to repeat some of that and add further material based on later chapters.

Fact or Theory ?

Do bear in mind that The Science of Getting Rich is written as fact and, at present, I am still taking it as a well-established theory. Having said that, I think there is a good chance that it is correct and I am putting it to the test in my life. So I take the concepts and the method to be true; I hold the theory to be true and I put it into practice. And, to be fair, the results continue to look promising.

OK, this is my interpretation of the main points:

  • At the most basic level, everything in the Universe is made of energy.
  • This energy is the raw material of all things.
  • This energy was not all used up in creating the Universe - there is plenty of unused raw material left.
  • This energy has creative intelligence behind it. Whatever it thinks is then created.
  • This creative intelligence uses the energy to make all things grow, develop and evolve. It makes new plants grow, it keeps the planets going round the sun etc. etc.
  • Life by its very nature, wants to expand, grow, develop and evolve.
  • The creative intelligence wants us, as human beings, to do the same.Treasure
  • The creative intelligence wants us to be rich so that we can live more, be more and do more. By being rich we can help the world to be a better place for everyone.
  • Therefore we have a reason to be rich and a right to be rich.
  • Because there is energy for creating things available, when you get rich it does not mean that someone else is poorer.
  • So there getting rich is not about competition for limited resources; it is about being creative - creating the things you want.
  • Being rich is not solely about money. Money is needed so we can enjoy more life on an intellectual level, a soul level and a physical level.
  • It is possible to communicate with the creative intelligence and it will create what we ask for if we go about that in a particular way.
  • This particular way involves
    • Being grateful for what we have
    • Holding a clear and definite vision of what we want
    • Getting away from a competitive mindset into a creative one
    • Doing our work every day in a efficient and effective manner so we are in a position to receive what we have asked for.
  • All business should be conducted with integrity and we should give people more in value than we take from them in money.
  • We should give the impression to the people we deal with that we are advancing, because we are ! The things we want are coming to us, therefore we are becoming rich, we are advancing.

Next Steps

OK, that’s the summary ! If any of this resonates with you then I suggest you read the whole book. It’s not long or complex but it contains some radical ideas as you will have already realised.

I will be writing more on this subject. In the meantime you can get 7 FREE lessons about how to apply these ideas in your life by clicking here.

If you want to read the book, download a full copy of The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles.

This post is my take on the final chapter of The Science of Getting Rich. See my earlier article about the book.
