Birthday Reflections

Published by Roger at 9:16 pm under Personal Development

It was my birthday yesterday. Earlier today I was thinking about the time I have spent on this planet and the time that I have left here to do the things I want to do.

Yep, it was my birthday yesterday. 52 years and counting. I had a good day and we went out for a fantastic meal last night. I don’t really like the idea of my birthday much - perhaps it reminds me of my mortality. I know it’s just another day and it’s really just one more day older but still…

While I was thinking about time, I was reminded of an idea someone mentioned to me a while ago. I can’t remember who it was but it goes like this. Have a guess at how old you will be when you die; subtract your current age from that number to get your estimate of how many years you have left. Now multiply that figure by 365 to get the number of days remaining in your life.

Calculations

So for me, I am going to guess that I will die when I am 85. And now I’m 52, so I have 33 years left which is equivalent to 1716 weeks or just over 12,000 days.

Another way of looking at this is to say that I’ve been here for nearly 19,000 days so far and so I’m over 60% through my life if my estimates (and my maths) are accurate.

Perspective and Motivation

Now I’m NOT saying this because I feel maudlin. It’s much more about putting things into perspective - a reality check, if you like. 12,000 days doesn’t seem all that much to me and there’s still plenty I want to do and achieve before I move on elsewhere. So, I feel it’s quite a motivational idea - I don’t want to waste time, I want to get on with life, to enjoy it. I want to attract more wonderful things into my life and I don’t want to hold myself back. There is no time to waste.

Do you want to do your own calculations ? I’ll leave you to it.

Short post this week - I’m sure you will see why !!

    Hi Mate,

Happy birthday. Isn’t it interesting that some people get depressed with their birthdays whereas I celebrate the fact that i am alive and growing as a person each year.

    Best Wishes,

    John
