Gratitude And Appreciation At Christmas
Well, Christmas and the holiday season are almost here. I’m writing this on 23rd December - so 2 days until the big day.

I hope you’ve done everything you need to - I wish I had got all my presents and cards off in time. The truth is that there are a few left to do ! I’m not complaining - far from it.
Commercialism
In amongst all the commercialism that seems to pervade Christmas in this part of the world, I would ask you to spare a thought for those in your local area who won’t be sitting down to any sort of Christmas dinner on 25th, people who are by themselves and people who are living rough over the holiday period. I certainly don’t want you to feel guilty about what you have - not at all. What I would suggest is that we all take a few minutes to appreciate what we have and be grateful for that.
My Father Used To Say Grace
When I was growing up my father used to say grace before each meal giving thanks to God for what we were about to eat. He tended to say the same thing day after day so any meaning it ever had evaporated through repetition. I was never religious anyway (unlike my father) so this ‘grace’ was something I just put up with before we ate.
A Challenge For The Holidays
A challenge for you over the holiday period could be to say a sort of grace. It doesn’t have to be to God (but can be if you want), it doesn’t have to be before a meal (but it can be if you want), you don’t have to say it out loud (but you can do if you want). What I would ask you to consider is to be grateful for what you have in your life and to appreciate the people and the things you have around you.
Thanks for reading. Have a great Christmas (if you are choosing to celebrate that) and a peaceful, relaxing holiday period.
