Working Efficiently and Effectively

In part 11 of this series yesterday, we looked at Action. More on that subject today.

Larger Than Our Present Place

The Science of Getting Rich asks us to work efficiently and effectively in everything we do. That may be a job that we get paid for, caring for our children or any voluntary or community work we may be involved in. On top of that we are asked to be ‘larger than our present place’. I think this means that we should look beyond what we do every day and see a bigger picture. We should consider how we might do things better or develop ourselves to be of more benefit and service to the world. In my opinion, it also includes thinking about what we can do to minimise our negative impact on the planet and people.

Wallace Wattles suggests that ‘if no one quite filled his present place’ then the world would be in decline as those people would be a drain on society. If, however, everyone were larger than their present place then society would advance consistently to the benefit of all. We are then being asked to take social responsibility for our actions and behaviours.

Successful Days

We must aim to make each day a successful day. That means doing all we have to do that day in an efficient and effective manner. Our actions are related to receiving what we have asked for and held in our thoughts. Therefore, our actions, every day, must be done well otherwise we may miss opportunities.

There is a proviso to all this though. Do not overwork. Aim for efficiency and effectiveness. It’s not about how many items you tick off your to-do list ! Thought and planning are needed to mange your work to best effect. It is also worth remembering your vision and putting your faith and purpose into that.

The Four Main Pillars of this Method

As we’ve seen, there are four main factors

  • Creating and holding a vision of what it is you want
  • Being grateful for what you have and what is coming to you
  • Moving away from a competitive mindset into one which is creative
  • Acting efficiently and effectively every day in whatever you do.

This is how the Science of Getting Rich sums it up

There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe.

A thought in this substance produces the thing that is imaged by the thought.

A person can form things in his thought, and, by impressing his thought upon formless substance, can cause the thing he thinks about to be created.

In order to do this, a person must pass from the competitive to the creative mind. He must form a clear mental picture of the things he wants, and must do - with faith and purpose - all that can be done each day, doing each separate thing in an efficient manner.

More soon.
